Security film is a clear or tinted durable material applied to glass doors and windows. It enhances the structural integrity of the glass, preventing it from shattering and falling to the ground when hit, and is virtually invisible. 

Some of these security films were originally created to deter "smash and grabs," theft that occurs when intruders break through a window and grab what they can. Studying two school shootings, the tragedy in Nashville and Sandy Hook, revealed that both shooters gained entry by shooting the glass. Even a few minutes' delay can save lives.

Delays Intruders: One of the essential reasons the TEA wants security film applications in all schools is because it delays intruders when they break glass to enter the school building. It does this by holding the glass in place. 

The intruder is caught off guard, expecting the glass to shatter. They find, however, that the glass can be more challenging to break, and even after breaking, it's more difficult to enter. This gives teachers, students, and staff time to take action, from contacting law enforcement to evacuating or moving to a secured area that can be locked down.

Protects Against Severe Weather: In the event of a natural disaster, whether weather-related or an earthquake, security films can prevent shattered glass from becoming dangerous projectiles. 

Limits Harm Due to Flying Glass: Flying pieces of glass can cause significant injuries, sometimes fatalities. Security film serves as a containment system, preventing spalls, no matter the cause.

Using tinted security film reduces a perpetrator's vision when looking into the school. This makes it harder to target individuals.

Compared to Bulletproof Glass
